The inspiration for MeKe came one afternoon when we were sitting on the deck, wildly discussing the jewellery making course we had just been to, and enjoying what is now, in hindsight, our first high class business lunch of Red Rooster. Having never done anything like this before, and really, having just gone along to have a bit of fun and hopefully learn a new skill, we had suddenly gone from beginners to world class businesswomen. Somewhere in between, we brainstormed and threw around many, many ideas, but the outcome was still the same. We decided that we would like to challenge our expertise and our years of professional experience in the business and science world and start a new venture.
MeKé is about having fun and looking good. Our jewellery designs are purposefully made with the idea of simple elegance in mind. Although we keep an eye on current fashion trends, we try to produce classic pieces that won’t date, and can be worn with a range of clothing. They are designed to be the highlight of your outfit, not just an accessory. They are also designed to be a talking piece at any function you may attend. Although exclusive, we try to keep our jewellery reasonably priced so that it makes it more affordable for everyone.
MeKé parties are the next level of jewellery fun! We love making it so much that we want to share the fun with children at their parties. Whether it be a birthday party or a corporate event, MeKé have a range of ideas for you.
Marianne Taylor
I have spent a great deal of time studying! After graduating with Bachelor of Science Hons and a Graduate Diploma in Local Family and Applied History and after years of working in Chemistry and Physics positions (yes I am a nerd!), my creative side was crying for release.
I live with my husband Matt (Kerri’s brother) and our two dogs, Bert and Siska, our bird Frank and numerous (but steadily declining) tropical fish.
Besides MeKé, some of my other interests are camping, four wheel driving, archaeology and history.
Kerri McConnel
Perhaps it is my Bachelor of Business (Accounting) qualification, but I have spent an inordinate amount of time over the past 10 years dreaming about owning and operating a small business. I have constantly brainstormed ideas until finally, after sitting down with Marianne, one idea has actually been realised. Even though I gave up being an accountant, in exchange for a business person, long ago, Marianne tells me with great hilarity, that I have gone from being a “bean counter” to “bead counter”!
I am married to Stirling, and like Marianne, our two dogs ( labradors, Holly and Stella) are a major part of our life and lifestyle.
Some other interests include traveling (particularly overseas), entertaining and cooking, painting ….and once upon a time renovating old houses.
